Dreams, Basketball and Nuns: The Mighty Macs

1 Corinthians 9:24,
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.”

God expects us to run our race in life with every bit of every that we have. He also expects us to follow Him and believe that He will lead us to victory. Having faith that God is leading you in a unknown direction can also be known as "following your dream".

Dreams are the thing that spur us on in life. Not your literal sleepy dream but the essence of your own personal mission and the desire to fulfill your "bucket list". God uses dreams to accomplish objectives and He will often give us those dreams to motivate us towards action.
The Mighty Macs shows us what happens when you follow your dream regardless of the opposition or difficulty's.

It's 1971. Cathy Rush (Carla Gugino) is a woman ahead of her time ... and she's about to embark on an adventure for the ages. A new era is dawning in the country and in collegiate athletics, where a national champion will be crowned for the first time in women's basketball.
In the lead up to this historical season, major universities are preparing their game plans to win that first title. Meanwhile a tiny all-women's Catholic college in Philadelphia has a more modest goal: find a coach before the season begins. Providentially, Cathy Rush is about to find Immaculata College.
Recently married, Cathy is dealing with the aftermath of a truncated playing career. While cultural norms would have her staying at home, she's willing to do the hard work necessary to help her new team reach their goals—or perhaps she's just trying to achieve her unfulfilled dreams through them.
From the beginning, her challenges are as imposing as the big-school teams Immaculata will face on the court. Cathy learns there is no gymnasium on campus, she receives little support from the school's Mother Superior (Ellen Burstyn), and the school is in dire financial straits. To top it off, she may not even have enough players to field a team!
While it appears the Macs don't have a prayer, all hope is not lost. With the help of Sister Sunday—(Marley Shelton) a spunky assistant coach—and the support of a booster club of elderly nuns, Coach Rush creates a new game plan that just might bring the team—and the school—together.
This true and faith-based story brings to light how following God's dream for your life can not only make you successful but will also impact the lives of those around you.

Conclusions:

Photography?
The cinematography is excellent and professionally done. There are some scenes that are different and contain some creative views which are not normally seen in most movies.

Mature concepts?
There is no foul language used, but there is a scene with 2 characters talking and drinking beer at a bar.

Moral Value and Application?
Very powerful story about how your life can influence others in more ways than you can imagine. The concept of persevering through trials is also a great Biblical message.

Just as a side note:
I did find the film very "sport cliche". It follows the same type of plot that you see in most sports movies and this one did not quite "heart-pull" as some others have done. The quality of the film was very refreshing though. Sound-track was very uplifting also.

Recommended?
Yes. I would rate this film as family safe. Excellent as a family film and even a film that can be easily shown to non-Christians as the content was not overly-religious. The humor was very prevalent although not expected and provided plenty of laughs and chuckles.
